Abel completed an Interuniversity Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Lleida (UdL) in December 2024. His dissertation research focused on developing a multiscale mathematical model of plants to investigate the effects of modulating strigolactone (SL) levels in maize. Specifically, he built a model of SL biosynthesis, connected it to a 3D root system architecture model, and organized it into a Wolfram Mathematica package. In 2018, he earned an MSc in Mathematics from De La Salle University (DLSU) in Manila, Philippines, where he applied mathematical modeling to study different strategies for controlling the outbreak of avian influenza A (H5N6) in poultry populations. In 2016, he obtained a BSc in Mathematics for Teachers from the Philippine Normal University (PNU). Currently, through a highly interdisciplinary collaboration, he leverages AI/ML techniques and high-performance computing to drive the computational design of novel gene editing technologies and the optimization of viral vectors for gene therapy.
